Kenyan motorists will continue to pay the same fuel prices for the period from 15th October to 14th November 2025, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced. All three major fuel categories remain unchanged despite mixed movements in landed costs during the review period.

    Price Overview in Nairobi:

    • Super Petrol: KSh 184.52 per litre  ( ↔️ No change)
    • Diesel: KSh 171.47 per litre  ( ↔️ No change)
    • Kerosene: KSh 154.78 per litre  ( ↔️ No change)

Previous prices (15th September – 14th October 2025): Super Petrol KSh 184.52, Diesel KSh 171.47, Kerosene KSh 154.78

“It's good to see prices staying the same. With everything else going up, at least we can plan our budgets better.”

    Factors Influencing the Stable Prices

The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreased slightly by 0.10 percent from US$620.84 per cubic metre in August 2025 to US$620.24 in September 2025. However, Diesel increased by 1.57 percent from US$614.08 to US$623.75, while Kerosene rose by 2.97 percent from US$609.59 to US$627.72 over the same period.

Despite these mixed movements in landed costs, EPRA maintained pump prices at their September levels, providing consistency for consumers.

To prevent price increases, EPRA has introduced subsidies: kerosene receives Sh3.48 per litre, diesel gets Sh0.54 per litre, and super petrol is subsidised by Sh0.07 per litre. These subsidies are financed through Petroleum Development Levies (PDL) applied at Sh5.40 per litre of petrol, Sh5.40 per litre of diesel, and Sh0.40 per litre of kerosene.

    EPRA’s Pricing Methodology

EPRA continues to monitor international petroleum prices, exchange rates, and other relevant factors to ensure fair pricing for consumers while allowing oil marketers to recover their costs. The Authority’s pricing formula considers the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, taxes, levies, and margins for oil marketers and transporters.

    📝 Why It Matters

Stable fuel prices provide predictability for motorists, public transport operators, and businesses that rely on fuel-intensive operations. The unchanged rates help maintain stability in transport costs and prevent additional inflationary pressure during a period when many Kenyans are managing rising living expenses.

For households that depend on kerosene for cooking and lighting, the price freeze offers continued relief despite the rise in landed costs for this product.

    📈 What’s Behind These Prices?

EPRA’s adjustments are influenced by several factors:

    • Global Crude Prices – Murban Crude Oil prices increased from USD 69.81 per barrel in August to USD 71.12 in September 2025.
    • Landed Cost – Super Petrol down 0.10%, Diesel up 1.57%, Kerosene up 2.97%.
    • Forex Rates – The Kenyan Shilling remained stable, with a slight decrease in the USD/KES rate, which fell from 129.62 in August to 129.52 in September 2025.

💡 EPRA’s pricing approach ensures balance between consumer protection and supply chain sustainability.

Fuel Tips for Car Owners – Maximise Every Drop

Even with stable fuel prices, adopting fuel-saving habits can lead to significant savings:

    • Maintain Proper Tyre Pressure: Under-inflated tyres can increase fuel consumption by up to 5%.
    • Smooth Driving: Avoid aggressive acceleration and heavy braking.
    • Regular Servicing: Keep your vehicle in top condition to ensure optimal fuel efficiency.

Looking Ahead to November 2025 Fuel Prices

With Murban crude oil prices trending downward in October, there’s cautious optimism for continued stability or even potential decreases in the next pricing cycle. However, global oil markets remain volatile, and factors such as geopolitical tensions, OPEC+ production decisions, and local currency fluctuations could influence future pricing.

The fact that diesel and kerosene landed costs increased while pump prices remained unchanged suggests EPRA is carefully managing the balance between market forces and consumer affordability. How this approach evolves in coming months will depend on global oil price movements and local economic conditions.
