EPRA Adjusts Fuel Prices in Response to Market Fluctuations
A Mixed Bag at the Pumps - Petrol Up, Diesel & Kerosene Down
Kenyan motorists are in for a mixed surprise this June. EPRA’s latest review brings a rise in Super Petrol prices, while Diesel and Kerosene enjoy welcome reductions. Starting June 15, 2025, pump prices will shift to reflect changes in global oil trends, revenue rules, and forex dynamics—bringing a recalibrated fuel landscape to consumers nationwide.
Price Overview in Nairobi:
- Super Petrol: KSh 32 per litre ( ⬆️ KSh 2.69)
- Diesel: KSh 91 per litre ( ⬇️ KSh 1.95)
- Kerosene: KSh 93 per litre ( ⬇️ KSh 2.06)
Factors Influencing the Price Adjustment
EPRA’s decision to adjust fuel prices in June 2025 was driven by both global and local factors. Globally, Murban crude oil prices, Kenya’s benchmark, rose, slightly increasing the landed cost of Super Petrol by 0.35%. Conversely, the costs of Diesel and Kerosene decreased by 2.42% and 5.14% respectively, reflecting broader global oil market trends. Domestically, the Finance Act 2023 introduced higher taxes and inflation-adjusted excise duties, contributing to the rise in petrol prices. However, a stable Kenyan Shilling helped to soften potential price increases across all fuel types, allowing EPRA to lower Diesel and Kerosene prices while raising Super Petrol.
EPRA’s Pricing Methodology
EPRA continues to monitor international petroleum prices, exchange rates, and other relevant factors to ensure fair pricing for consumers while allowing oil marketers to recover their costs. The Authority’s pricing formula considers the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, taxes, levies, and margins for oil marketers and transporters.
Why Should You Care?
For businesses running diesel fleets, the drop in diesel prices is good news. For daily motorists and commuters, however, the Super Petrol increase means slightly higher travel costs this month.
“This petrol increase cuts into my margins, lakini at least diesel came down.”

What’s Behind These Prices?
EPRA’s adjustments are influenced by several factors:
- Global Crude Prices – Murban crude fluctuated mildly, mostly affecting petrol.
- Landed Cost – Super Petrol up 0.35%, Diesel down 2.42%, Kerosene down 5.14%.
- Forex Rates – A stable Kenyan Shilling helped mitigate potential price swings.
💡 EPRA’s pricing approach ensures balance between consumer protection and supply chain sustainability.
Fuel Tips for Car Owners – Maximize Every Drop
Even with stable fuel prices, adopting fuel-saving habits can lead to significant savings:
- Maintain Proper Tyre Pressure: Under-inflated tyres can increase fuel consumption by up to 5%.
- Smooth Driving: Avoid aggressive acceleration and heavy braking.
- Regular Servicing: Keep your vehicle in top condition to ensure optimal fuel efficiency.

Looking Ahead to July 2025 Fuel Prices
As July 2025 approaches, several factors could put upward pressure on fuel prices. With global oil prices edging higher and fiscal policy tightening, consumers in Kenya may see further increases, particularly if there’s a surge in global demand or if foreign exchange conditions shift. We’ll be closely monitoring every factor that could influence EPRA’s next review.
