EPRA Maintains Prices Amid Global Market Fluctuations
Fuel Prices Remain Steady for February 2025
Kenyans can breathe a sigh of relief as the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announces no change in fuel prices for the February–March 2025 period. Despite fluctuations in global oil prices and rising import costs, EPRA’s latest review ensures that motorists and businesses will not face higher fuel expenses this month. As economic pressures continue worldwide, what does this stability mean for consumers—and how long might it last?
Price Overview in Nairobi:
- Super Petrol: Ksh 176.58 per litre (unchanged)
- Diesel: Ksh 167.06 per litre (unchanged)
- Kerosene:Ksh 151.39 per litre (unchanged)
Factors Influencing the Price Adjustment
EPRA’s decision reflects changes in the global oil market and local economic factors. The reduction in Kerosene prices is attributed to a decrease in the average landed cost of imported Kerosene. Meanwhile, the stability in Super Petrol and Diesel prices suggests a balance between global oil prices and the Kenyan Shilling’s exchange rate against the US Dollar.
EPRA’s Pricing Methodology
EPRA continues to monitor international petroleum prices, exchange rates, and other relevant factors to ensure fair pricing for consumers while allowing oil marketers to recover their costs. The Authority’s pricing formula considers the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, taxes, levies, and margins for oil marketers.
Why Should You Care?
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the period from February 15 to March 14, 2025. This decision comes despite fluctuations in global oil prices and changes in the landed cost of imported fuel products. Motorists and businesses can expect consistent fuel expenses during this period.
“It’s a relief that prices haven’t gone up. Consistency helps with budgeting.”
– Jane K., Car Owner, Nairobi
What’s Behind These Prices?
EPRA’s adjustments are influenced by several factors:
- Global Crude Prices – While there have been fluctuations in international oil prices, EPRA has opted to keep local prices steady to cushion consumers.
- Landed Cost – The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increased by 2.80% from US$611.69 per cubic metre in December 2024 to US$628.80 per cubic metre in January 2025. Diesel’s landed cost increased by 4.20% from US$644.10 to US$671.14 per cubic metre, while Kerosene increased by 4.89% from US$649.64 to US$681.44 per cubic metre.
- Forex Rates – The Kenyan Shilling has remained relatively stable against the US Dollar, mitigating potential price hikes.
💡 These combined factors have led EPRA to maintain the maximum retail prices for petroleum products, reflecting the current economic landscape.
Fuel Tips for Car Owners – Maximize Every Drop
Even with stable fuel prices, adopting fuel-saving habits can lead to significant savings:
- Maintain Proper Tyre Pressure: Under-inflated tires can increase fuel consumption.
- Smooth Driving: Avoid aggressive acceleration and heavy braking.
- Regular Servicing: Keep your vehicle in top condition to ensure optimal fuel efficiency.

Looking Ahead to March 2025
While this month’s prices remain unchanged, the global oil market remains unpredictable. Factors such as OPEC decisions, international conflicts, or currency fluctuations could impact next month’s prices.
